Nucleosynthesis in Early Stars
نویسنده
چکیده
We present preliminary results of stellar structure and nucleosynthesis calculations for some early stars. The study (still in progress) seeks to explore the expected chemical signatures of second generation lowand intermediate-mass stars that may have formed out of a combination of Big Bang and Pop III (Z=0) supernovae material. Although the study is incomplete at this stage, we find some important features in our models. The initial chemical composition of these early stars is found to be significantly different to that given by just scaling the solar composition. The most notable difference is the lack of nitrogen. This should not affect the structural evolution significantly as nitrogen will be quickly produced through the CNO cycle due to the presence of carbon (and oxygen). It should however effect the nucleosynthetic yields. We also find that our very low metallicity 5M⊙ model, with [Fe/H] = −4.01, does not reach the RGB — it goes directly to the helium burning phase. It does not experience the first dredge-up either. This is not a new finding but it will have an effect on the surface chemical evolution of the stars and should alter the nucleosynthetic yields that we are currently calculating. Our higher metallicity stars, with a globular cluster composition at [Fe/H] = −1.4, do experience all the standard phases of evolution but also have significantly higher surface temperatures and luminosities compared to solar metallicity stars. Their internal temperatures are also higher which should again effect the final nucleosynthetic yields. 1.

Nucleosynthesis in early supernova winds III: No significant contribution from neutron-rich pockets
Recent nucleosynthesis calculations of Type II supernovae using advanced neutrino transport determine that the early neutrino winds are proton-rich. However, a fraction of the ejecta emitted at the same time is composed of neutron-rich pockets. In this paper we calculate the nucleosynthesis contribution from the neutron-rich pockets in the hot convective bubbles of a core-collapse supernova and...
متن کاملNucleosynthesis in Black-Hole-Forming Supernovae and Abundance Patterns of Extremely Metal-Poor Stars
Stars more massive than ∼ 20 25 M⊙ form a black hole at the end of their evolution. Stars with non-rotating black holes are likely to collapse "quietly" ejecting a small amount of heavy elements (Faint supernovae). In contrast, stars with rotating black holes are likely to give rise to very energetic supernovae (Hypernovae). We present distinct nucleosynthesis features of these two types of "bl...
متن کاملHalo Star Abundances and r-Process Synthesis
The heavy elements formed by neutron capture processes have an interesting history from which we can extract useful clues to and constraints upon the star formation and nucleosynthesis history of Galactic matter. Of particular interest are the heavy element compositions of extremely metal-deficient stars. At metallicities [Fe/H] ≤ -2.5, stellar abundance data (for both halo field stars and glob...
متن کاملNucleosynthesis in Type Ii Supernovae and the Abundances in Metal-poor Stars
We explore the effects on nucleosynthesis in Type II supernovae of various parameters (mass cut, neutron excess, explosion energy, progenitor mass) in order to explain the observed trends of the ironpeak element abundance ratios ([Cr/Fe], [Mn/Fe], [Co/Fe] and [Ni/Fe]) in halo stars as a function of metallicity for the range −4 ≤ [Fe/H] ≤ −2.5. [Cr/Fe] and [Mn/Fe] decrease with decreasing [Fe/H]...
متن کاملSupernova Nucleosynthesis in the Early Universe
The first metal enrichment in the universe was made by supernova (SN) explosions of population (Pop) III stars. The trace remains in abundance patterns of extremely metalpoor (EMP) stars. We investigate the properties of nucleosynthesis in Pop III SNe by means of comparing their yields with the abundance patterns of the EMP stars. We focus on (1) jetinduced SNe with various energy deposition ra...
متن کاملLi isotopes in metal-poor halo dwarfs, a more and more complicated story
The nuclei of the lithium isotopes are fragile, easily destroyed, so that, at variance with most of the other elements, they cannot be formed in stars through steady hydrostatic nucleosynthesis. The Li isotope is synthesized during primordial nucleosynthesis in the first minutes after the Big Bang and later by cosmic rays, by novae and in pulsations of AGB stars (possibly also by the ν process)...
